Hoofstock Keeper

Position: Full-Time

Description: The Texas Zoofari Park is rapidly growing and searching for motivated individuals to join our animal care team. This position will mostly care for various hoofstock in our free-range safari. The park maintains a diverse collection of animals, including southern white rhino, eland, bison, sable antelope, zebra, giraffe and more. Daily tasks include animal care, training, behavioral enrichment, assist with medical needs, records and help with habitat maintenance.

Job Responsibilities include, but are not limited to providing proper animal care through:

  • Daily cleaning and maintenance of exhibits.
  • Diet preparation and feeding.
  • Assist in vet and medical procedures.
  • Daily observation of animals including for injuries, breeding, and general healthcare.
  • Administer proper enrichment to various animal species.
  • Help with capture, moving, and handling of large hoofstock according to set policies and procedures.
  • Use large machinery, power tools, and lawn equipment in a safe manner.
  • Must be able to communicate and give keeper talks/animal encounters to guests through formal and informal encounters.

Education and Experience:

  • A bachelor’s degree in an animal relevant field is strongly desired.
  • Previous experience with exotic animals feeding, care and exhibit cleaning/maintenance is beneficial. Experience with large domestic hoofed stock (cattle, sheep, horses, etc.) is preferred.
  • Experience with large machinery (tractor/skid steer/etc.)

Prerequisites:

  • Must be able to complete daily tasks in a timely fashion with minimal supervision once trained and keep accurate daily records.
  • Must be physically fit and active, able to lift 50 pounds comfortably and be able to work in all types of weather.
  • Must have the ability to stand, walk, reach, bend, lift, stoop, squat, kneel, push, pull, and climb for prolonged periods of time.
  • Must possess a strong work ethic, a willingness to learn and a valid driver’s license.
  • Must maintain a non-smoking/vaping work environment.
  • Weekend and holidays are required.
